Fruits, berries and table grape are in the spotlight of Crimean office of Agricultural Marketing Project

Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) has organized and conducted on the 30th of November, 2004, the scientific-practical conference "Modern Technologies of Production, Storing and Marketing of Fruits, Berries and Table Grape" in the Southern Department of the National Agricultural University in Simferopol (Crimean Agricultural-Technological University). More than 80 people from several oblasts of Ukraine participated in the event. The delegates of the conference were the farmers, scientists, lecturers of the agricultural high schools of Southern Ukraine, producers of agricultural commodities and mass media representatives.

Mr. Motin, general director of "Technoservice" LLC (Melitopol), and Mr. Philipov, marketing specialist, have highlighted in their reports the advantages and peculiarities of drip irrigation. According to their data, this year in Ukraine there are about 12,000 hectares of production lands under drip irrigation, and each year the demand on drip irrigation systems is growing rapidly. According to prognosis of "Technoservice" LLC, in 2005 about 15,000 hectares will be irrigated using drip irrigation systems; these data differ significantly from AMP information, according to which the total acreage under drip irrigation is evaluated as 20-24,000 hectares. However, the information provided by "Technoservice" let us confirm once more the high dynamics of acreage growth for lands under drip irrigation in Ukraine.

During the conference some valuable business contacts have been made among some companies and farmers, which are expected to form the long-lasting cooperation of mutual benefit in the course of time. The participants of the conference appreciated highly the level of the reports.

Agricultural Marketing Project plans to conduct such conferences on a regular basis trying to focus the burning problems of fruit and vegetable sector and to give the practical recommendations concerning the decision alternatives. We will also try to inform promptly our clients and all subscribers of "Agrooglyad" journal as well as the visitors of AMP site www.lol.org.ua about new opportunities for successful and profitable business in the area of production and marketing of vegetable, fruit and berry commodities.
