"Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal started wholesale price monitoring for fresh herbs

Starting from April 26th four new products have been added to the commodity list which prices are monitored by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal under support of the Agricultural Marketing Project. They are parsley, dill, green onion and Iceberg lettuce. The price monitoring results are available in the section "Wholesale markets prices".

These changes reflected the market development, as fresh herbs are gaining more importance and becoming an integral part of vegetable sections. Fresh herbs production attracts a growing number of professional producers, so that the product is becoming a part of the professional fresh produce market.

Fresh herbs consumption per one inhabitant of Ukraine falls much behind the consumption rates in the Western European countries and America. D-r Robert Lee, the Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project provided his evaluation at "Salads of Ukraine 2006" conference: he said, if Ukrainians eat twice less salads than Americans, the market volume will amount to more than 300,000 tons. Now only 6,000 tons of lettuce and fresh herbs are produced in Ukraine. According to the evaluations of the Agricultural Marketing Project specialists, Ukrainian lettuce market may potentially grow up to UAH 250-300 mln in the next five years. It provides a really huge business opportunity for the farmers and other market players.
