It is high time for Ukrainian growers to decide on potato and vegetable area structure for 2013

Fruit-Inform analysts keep on preparing the initial Ukrainian fundamental potato and vegetable area forecast for the year 2013. Based on the study, the production and price forecast will be made public on February 19, 2013, at the 5th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2013”.

As regards the planting prospects, the percentage of growers still having made no decision on production areas and their structure is extremely high. “Such a situation is rather untypical for Ukraine and is a result of uniquely long period of low prices for traditional vegetables (onions, cabbage, beetroots, carrots) and potatoes that led to Ukrainian growers being uncertain about their financial potential for the new season even in January this year”, said Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Growers are uncertain also due to difficult investment climate and devaluation expectations in the country, as well as vagueness in potato and vegetable prices in the winter-spring period”.

In connection with that, Fruit-Inform analysts will present all conference participants the information on produce stocks in Ukraine as at late January and estimated consumption volumes in February-March that will enable Ukrainian market participants to work out the adequate stocks sales strategy. Based on that information and expectations from the following season, each conference attendee will be able to receive full package of information crucial for efficient planning of 2013 planting area structure.
