Ukraine: apple prices down due to Russia's ban

According to Fruit-Inform, prices of high-quality apples have gone down by 10% in Ukraine since the beginning of this week.

For the present, Ukrainian growers offer high-quality apples at UAH 5.00-6.50/kg (EUR 0.28-0.36/kg), depending on quality and shipment volume, which is almost similar to last year's levels.

We would remind you that growers have managed to maintain relatively high prices of apples before this week despite higher production in Ukraine: export prices reached UAH 6.50-7.00/kg (EUR 0.36-0.38/kg), and minimum prices were no lower than UAH 5.50/kg (EUR 0.31/kg) thanks to Russian companies' high demand. However, now Ukrainian growers have to reduce their prices due to the ban on imports of Ukrainian crops introduced by Russia and a seasonal increase in the supply.

Farmers are sure that negative price performance will remain in effect in future and expect the price decrease rates to accelerate day by day.

More detailed information about the impact of Russia's ban on the Eastern European fruit and vegetable market will be presented at the 11th International Conference «Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2014», which is going to be held on December 8-9 in Kiev. The conference will be followed by the 4th International Trade Forum with about 30 Ukrainian retail chains and importers ready to conduct negotiations with fruit and vegetable suppliers on December 10.
