Moldovan apple market stagnates

Moldovan apple growers are still affected by Russia's ban on imports: prices vary between extremely low levels due to lack of active demand in the internal market and outside of the country.

For the present, farmers ship red apples at $0.17-0.28/kg, and prices of green varieties are not higher than $0.23-0.28/kg. Growers say that prices have already reached breakeven point, and further storage of apples has no economic feasibility under conditions of no export prospects.

We would remind you that Moldovan growers also were unsatisfied with the export demand in the previous season. Nevertheless, thanks to regular shipments to Russia, prices were 20-25% higher than observed nowadays.
