Ukraine: potato prices up this week

Potato prices grew in Ukraine this week.

According to Fruit-Inform daily price monitoring, for the present, growers ship high-quality potatoes at prices 10-15% higher week-on-week.

Positive price performance is connected with Crimean middlemen's high demand for Ukrainian potatoes. Crimean wholesalers purchase Ukrainian produce and then resell it to Russia. As we have previously informed, potato prices have also been growing in the Russian Federation. For the present, potato prices are 40% higher year-on-year there. At the same time, potato prices in Ukraine are half as high as registered in the same period of the previous season.

Furthermore, Russia is not the only country, which imports Ukrainian potatoes now. Exporters also ship potatoes to Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Belarus.

More detailed information about the trends observed in the Eastern European market for potatoes and traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, carrots, table beets) will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015» to be held on February 27, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
