Belgium cuts pear exports to Russia by a third

According to Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, Belgium reduced pear exports to Russia by 30% year-on-year to 5,000 tonnes in January this year. In the same month of 2012, the exports stood at about 7,000 tonnes. However, Belgium managed to remain the second largest pear exporter to Russia in January this year despite lower export volumes.

On a month-on-month basis, Belgian exporters lowered exports by 23%: in December 2012, Russia imported 6,500 tonnes of pears from Belgium.

Besides this country, the group of top-three largest pear exporters to Russia in January 2013 included the Netherlands and Lithuania.
