Russia: banana prices surge
Banana prices show the sharpest growth rate within the Russian fruit market, having jumped by 40% on the average since the beginning of February, reports Fruit-Inform referring to the daily monitoring data.
For instance, now traders maintain their banana prices at RUB 80-87/kg ($1.41-1.54/kg), depending on region and contract terms. Therefore, now this produce is 42% more expensive compared to the same period of 2017. In addition, market players expect further rise in price thanks to positive price trend in the external market caused by the limited supply of bananas. Meanwhile, due to rather low demand in the domestic market, many importers either stop purchasing at all or agree to buy customized volumes only.
