Cattle stocks in Ukraine decreased by 2.2 percent during seven months

Cattle stocks decreased by 2.2 percent during seven months in comparison to the same period of the last year - to 10.275 million heads, the State Committee of Statistics reported.

According to the Committee, cow stocks decreased by 1.9 per cent to 5.079 million heads, hog - by 8.5 percent to 8.365 million heads. At the same time stocks of sheep and goats increased by 4.1 percent - to 2.160 million heads, poultry - by 13.3 percent to 171 million heads.

Significant decrease of cattle stocks was seen in Zaporozhie (10.3 percent) and Dnepropetrovsk (5.9 percent) oblasts, hogs - in Nikolaev, Lugansk, Zaporozhie (24-30 percent) oblasts, sheep and goats - in Volyn and Nikolaev (10 percent) oblasts.

As it was reported by the State Committee of Statistics, decrease of livestock stocks was mainly seen in agricultural enterprises. So, in these enterprises cattle stocks during January-July decreased by 13 percent, including cows - by 12.6 percent, hogs - by 13 percent, sheep and goats - by 10 percent, poultry - by 35 percent, while at household plots stocks increased by 12, 5.3, 9 and 8.6 percent respectively.

In 2000 cattle stocks totaled 9.219 million heads, which is 13 percent less than in 1999, including cows - 4.9 million heads (10 percent), hogs - 8 million heads (21 percent), sheep and goats - 1.7 million heads (6 percent), poultry - 123 million heads (2.4 percent).
