About 3 billion hryvnyas in credits were provided by Ukrainian commercial banks to agricultural producers during 8 months of 2001

About 3 billion hryvnyas in credits were provided by Ukrainian commercial banks to agricultural producers during 8 months of 2001, of which 400 thousand hryvnyas have already been returned, National Bank chairman Vladimir Stelmakh announced on September 24.

According to Vladimir Stelmakh, total sum of credits invested by the bank system into domestic agrarian sector during 8 months of this year over 3.9 times more the sum of credits provided during the whole 2000. This is especially important, V. Stelmah thinks, because agrarian and industrial bank "Ukraina", mainly specializing in crediting the agrarian sector, from the beginning of 2001 has provided a very insignificant sum to the agrarian sector. Thus, the National Bank chairman pointed out, Ukrainian banks fully met needs of agricultural producers in short-term credits, which gave a possibility to receive current record grain crop.
